UFC 282 (on December 10, 2022) plays host to a surprise main event featuring former champion Jan Blachowicz vs division dark horse Magomed Ankalaev. The original main event was a rematch title fight between Jiri Prochakza and Glover Teixeira. The champ Jiri got hurt and vacated the title and Glover declined a new opponent – so here we are with Ankalaev and Blachowicz battling for the vacant light heavyweight title. After losing his belt to Teixeira, Blachowicz rebounded with a victory over Aleksandar Rakic. On the other side, Ankalaev has won 9 straight since a stunning last second submission loss to Paul Craig. This card also features the highly anticipated return of Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett who takes on Jared Gordon.
Update: Blachhowicz and Ankalaev fought to a controversial draw in the main event with most pundits believing that Ankalaev did enough to earn the decision. In a highly questionable co-main event decision, Paddy Pimblett remained undefeated in the UFC after getting outgrappled by Jared Gordon for 3 rounds. Bonuses went to all fighters with finishes and Darren Till/Dricus Du Plessis took home the Fight of the Night bonus.
