UFC 309 (on November 16, 2024) is a highly anticipated PPV card featuring a title fight taking place at Madison Square Garden in New York City between G.O.A.T contender and Heavyweight champion Jon Jones against former champion and current Cleveland firefighter Stipe Miocic. Jones is coming off a long layoff after dominating Ciryl Gane to take the title. Miocic is coming off an even longer layoff having not fought in three and a half years after losing his title to Francis Ngannou. The winner may retire or face a unification bout with interim champion Tom Aspinall. This main card also features an exciting bout between Michael Chandler and Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira and the return of world-class wrestler Bo Nickal against submission specialist Paul Craig.
Update: Jon Jones once again proved why he is the greatest to ever step in the octagon as he surgically picked apart former champion Stipe Miocic before finishing him in the third round. Jones hit a nasty trip takedown and hit some ground and pound on Stipe in the first round then continued his onslaught with punches and kicks in round 2. In the third, Jones stopped Miocic with a spinning back kick to the stomach – retaining his heavyweight title. The co-main between Chandler and Oliveira was an exciting barnburner that lived up to the hype. Oliveira was more polished and dominated four rounds with grappling and precise striking. In the final frame, Chandler nearly finished Oliveira but the Brazilian was able to hold on for a unanimous decision.
