This Superbowl weekend pay per view card (On February 12, 2022) is highlighted by a rematch between middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and former champion Robert Whittaker. In his last title defense, Adesanya took a one-sided decision against Marvin Vettori. Before that win, however, Adesanya tasted defeat for the first time as he tried to move up to take the light heavyweight title off Jan Blachowicz. Adesanya looks to continue his reign at middleweight against Bobby Knuckles. Whittaker has won 12 of his last 13 fights with his lone defeat coming to Adesanya. We shouldn’t expect much jiu jitsu in the co-main event as Derrick Lewis and Tai Tuivasa look to slug it out. The two heavyweights have had 51 total fights in their career and have only gone the distance 8 times. Also highlighting the main card is a fight with major title implications as Jared Cannonier battles Derek Brunson.
Odds: Adesanya is a 3 to 1 favorite at -300 while Whittaker is at +220 at BetUS
Update: Adesanya defended his title after five hard fought rounds against Whittaker. Whittaker found some success with his takedowns but Adesanya’s pinpoint striking and ability to get back to his feet ultimately won him the unanimous decision. In the co-main event, a Tai Tuivasa elbow knocked out hometown favorite Derrick Lewis. Tuivasa put himself in clear title contention with the win. Bonuses went to Tuivasa, Jared Cannonier, Sergei Morozov and Douglas Silva de Andrade.
