This pay per view card (on December 11, 2021) is highlighted by two title fights. In the main event, lightweight kingpin Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira takes on former interim champion Dustin Poirier. The champion Oliveira has not lost since 2017, reeling off wins against the likes of Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee. Oliveira captured the crown vacated by Khabib Nurmagomedov’s retirement by knocking out former Bellator champion Michael Chandler this past May at UFC 262. Poirier earned his shot at the title by defeating former champ-champ Conor McGregor in their trilogy with their most recent bout coming at UFC 264.
The co-main event features another title defense by pound for pound queen Amanda Nunes. She squares off with Julianna Pena for the bantamweight belt. Nunes is attempting to build on her legacy as the greatest fighter of all time (male or female) by adding to her 12 fight win streak. As expected, Nunes is the biggest betting favorite on the card at -850 while Pena is currently at +525.
This stacked card also features Dominick Cruz, Dan Ige, Pedro Munhoz, Cody Garbrandt and Suga Sean O’Malley. A planned fight between Matt Schnell and Alex Perez was cancelled due to health concerns. Priscila Cachoeira missed weight forfeiting 30% of her purse to Gillian Robertson.
Update: This card had everything – crazy knockouts, submissions, historic upsets and the solidification of a true champion. The biggest moment of the night had to be Julianna Pena’s incredible rear naked choke win over the GOAT Amanda Nunes. Pena wore down the champion with pressure and precise striking and eventually dragged her to the floor to finish her. This was certainly one of the most shocking moments in MMA history and the rematch should be fireworks. In the main event, Charles Oliveira defended his title against Dustin Poirier. Poirier put it on the champion in the first round but Oliveira weathered the storm just like he did against Michael Chandler. Oliveira was able to take the fight to the mat to implemented his legendary ground game and eventually submitted Poirier.
Bonuses went to Sean O’Malley, Pena, Andre Muniz, Bruno Silva, Kai-Kara France, Tai Tuivasa and Pedro Munhoz/Dominick Cruz (FOTN).
